MAGJC Green Trade Association

PostDateIcon Wednesday, 10 March 2010 22:23 | Print E-mail

The Massachusetts Green Jobs Coalition is excited to share some details on its latest collaborative project,

The Green Trade Association

A 501(c)6 nonprofit trade association which will convene a nation-wide network and support system of contractors, employers, innovators and entrepreneurs committed to helping each other build a just and inclusive Green Economy.

The Green Trade Association was incorporated on March 4th in the State of Delaware and tax status is pending.  The prestigious Nixon Peabody law firm has graciously offered to provide pro bono legal services for the incorporation process.  Founding Members are now establishing the groundwork for this new organization, and more details will soon be made available.

With your participation and support, The Green Trade Association will fulfill several unique rolls:

-Providing opportunities to lower overhead costs by sharing administrative services, obtaining loans, wholesale insurance, bulk purchasing, workers comp and equipment rentals

-Keeping members informed on pertinent legislation, policy developments, fundin and rebate programs

-Advocating and lobbying in support of legislation and policy beneficial to small, independent, and local businesses, entrepreneurs and contractors

-Helping contractors and others to comply with local hiring requirements, HUD section 3, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and the affirmative action provisions for governmnt contracts and federal stimulus funding

-Connecting graduates of community-based apprenticeship and training programs with potential employers

The Green Trade Association will provide channels of access to vital resources for the small, independent and emerging green businesses.  It will strive to create the same economy of scale that large corporations now enjoy.  As a 501(c)6 non-profit (the same tax status as a Chamber of Commerce), the Green Trade Association (GTA) will advocate for legislation and policy critical to the well being and prosperity of its members.

In solidarity with historically disadvantaged populations who continue to experience barriers to employment, members are committed to supporting the creation of an economy that will generate health and prosperity for all members of our society, as well as creating a sustainable and healthy relationship with the Earth.  We understand that this model serves the greatest good for all humanity.
Where possible and appropriate, members will support each other, while providing mentoring and hiring opportunities for individuals that are participating in the community-based Energy Efficiency Apprenticeship programs, Pathways out of Poverty programs and other community-based Green Jobs training programs.  By doing this, these members will benefit personally by gaining a competitive edge through compliance with US DOL affirmative action guidelines.  But more importantly, this group of contractors, businesspeople and social entrepreneurs will play a critical role in the creation of economic justice within the green movement.

Organizers are now seeking individuals, businesses
and organizations who want to learn more about
membership and collaboration.
